The ceftazidime component works by interfering with the formation of the bacterial cell wall to kill the bacteria, while the avibactam component protects ceftazidime from being broken down by certain enzymes that some resistant bacteria produce. AVYCAZ is administered by a healthcare professional through an intravenous infusion.
