About ALTUVIIIO
What is this medication?
ALTUVIIIO is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of adults and children with hemophilia A, which is a genetic bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency of clotting factor VIII. It functions as a recombinant factor VIII replacement therapy designed to help the blood clot properly. The medication is specifically indicated for routine prophylaxis to reduce the frequency of bleeding episodes, the on-demand treatment and control of bleeding events, and the management of bleeding during and after surgical procedures.
This medication is designed to provide high sustained levels of factor activity in the bloodstream, allowing for a once-weekly dosing schedule for prevention. It is not intended for the treatment of von Willebrand disease. Patients typically receive the medication through an intravenous infusion administered by a healthcare provider or via self-administration after proper training. By maintaining higher factor levels for a longer duration, it helps provide consistent protection against joint bleeds and other internal bleeding complications associated with hemophilia A.
