About ChiRhoStim, ChiRhoStim 40
What is this medication?
ChiRhoStim is a synthetic version of the human hormone secretin that is used by healthcare professionals primarily for diagnostic purposes. Its main role is to help evaluate how well the pancreas is functioning, particularly when a doctor suspects conditions like chronic pancreatitis. When administered, the medication stimulates the pancreas to secrete digestive fluids and bicarbonate, allowing medical teams to measure the organ output and determine if it is producing sufficient levels of these substances.
Beyond testing for pancreatic sufficiency, ChiRhoStim is also utilized to help diagnose gastrinoma, which is a tumor often linked to Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. Additionally, it may be used during specific endoscopic procedures, such as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, to assist in the identification of the pancreatic duct. By increasing the flow of pancreatic juices, it makes it easier for physicians to visualize the anatomy and locate specific openings within the digestive system during diagnostic imaging.
