About CLONIDINE HYDROCHLORIDE
What is this medication? Clonidine hydrochloride is a medication primarily prescribed to treat high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. It belongs to a class of drugs called central alpha-adrenergic agonists, which work by stimulating specific receptors in the brain. This process helps to relax and widen the blood vessels while also lowering the heart rate, which allows blood to flow more smoothly through the body and reduces the overall workload on the heart.
In addition to its use for blood pressure management, this medication is frequently utilized to treat several other conditions. It is commonly prescribed for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, to help improve focus and control impulsivity. Healthcare providers may also use clonidine to help manage symptoms associated with withdrawal from substances like opioids, as well as for certain types of chronic pain, anxiety, or menopausal hot flashes.
