About Diclona Gel
What is this medication? Diclona Gel is a prescription topical nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat joint pain caused by osteoarthritis. It contains the active ingredient diclofenac sodium, which works by reducing substances in the body that cause pain and inflammation. This medication is specifically designed to be applied directly to the skin over affected areas such as the knees, hands, wrists, or elbows, providing localized relief while minimizing systemic absorption compared to oral medications.
In addition to managing arthritic pain, certain formulations of this gel may be used to treat actinic keratosis, which are precancerous skin growths caused by excessive sun exposure. Patients should apply the gel exactly as directed by their healthcare provider and avoid using it on open wounds or infected skin. Because it belongs to the class of medications known as NSAIDs, it is important to discuss potential side effects or interactions with other medications with a doctor before beginning treatment.
