About Embriva

What is this medication? Letairis is a prescription medication primarily used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension, which is a specific type of high blood pressure that occurs in the arteries of the lungs and the right side of the heart. By managing this condition, the medicine helps to improve a patient's exercise capacity and slows down the progression of the disease. It is generally intended for individuals who experience significant shortness of breath or fatigue during daily physical activities due to their lung condition. The medication functions as an endothelin receptor antagonist, which means it works by blocking the effects of endothelin, a substance produced by the body that causes blood vessels to tighten and narrow. By inhibiting this substance, the drug allows the blood vessels in the lungs to remain relaxed and open, thereby lowering the pressure within those vessels. This reduction in pressure makes it easier for the heart to pump blood through the lungs, ultimately improving oxygen flow and reducing the physical strain on the cardiovascular system.
