About INGREZZA, INGREZZA Sprinkle

What is this medication? INGREZZA and INGREZZA Sprinkle are prescription medicines used to treat adults with tardive dyskinesia, which is a condition characterized by uncontrollable, repetitive movements of the face, tongue, and other body parts. These movements are often a side effect of taking certain medications for mental health conditions over a long period. The active ingredient, valbenazine, works by reducing the amount of certain chemicals in the brain that control muscle movement, helping to decrease the frequency and intensity of these involuntary actions.

In addition to tardive dyskinesia, these medications are also used to treat chorea, which refers to the involuntary writhing or jerky movements associated with Huntington's disease. While the standard medication comes in a capsule form to be swallowed whole, the Sprinkle version is specifically designed for patients who have trouble swallowing pills. This formulation allows the capsule to be opened and its contents sprinkled onto soft food, making it easier for individuals with swallowing difficulties to receive their necessary treatment.
