About Ionite APF Foam
What is this medication? Ionite APF Foam is a prescription-strength topical fluoride treatment used by dental professionals to help prevent tooth decay and strengthen tooth enamel. It contains 1.23 percent fluoride ion and is formulated with an acidic pH to facilitate faster and deeper fluoride uptake into the tooth structure. This professional-grade foam is typically applied during a routine dental visit using a tray system, where it remains in contact with the teeth for one to four minutes to provide protection against cavities. This medication works by promoting the remineralization of weakened enamel and making the teeth more resistant to acid attacks from bacteria and dietary sugars. It is especially beneficial for children and adults who are at a high risk for dental caries or those who have specific conditions that make them more prone to enamel erosion. After the foam application, patients are usually advised to refrain from eating, drinking, or rinsing their mouths for at least thirty minutes to allow the fluoride to fully integrate into the tooth surfaces.
