About Junel 21 Day, Junel Fe 28 Day

Junel 21 Day and Junel Fe 28 Day are combination oral contraceptive pills used primarily to prevent pregnancy. These medications contain two types of female hormones, which are an estrogen called ethinyl estradiol and a progestin called norethindrone acetate. They work by preventing the release of an egg from an ovary during the menstrual cycle. Additionally, they change the consistency of the cervical mucus and the lining of the uterus to make it harder for sperm to reach an egg or for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus. The main difference between the two versions is the number of pills and the inclusion of iron in the Fe version. Junel 21 Day consists of three weeks of active pills followed by a one-week break, while Junel Fe 28 Day includes seven reminder pills that contain ferrous fumarate to help replace iron lost during the monthly period. Besides preventing pregnancy, healthcare providers may prescribe these tablets to help regulate menstrual cycles, decrease blood loss, and treat painful periods.
