About LAGEVRIO

What is this medication?

Lagevrio, also known by its generic name molnupiravir, is an oral antiviral medication used to treat mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in adults. It is specifically intended for individuals who have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus and are at a high risk of developing severe illness, which could lead to hospitalization or death. This medication is typically prescribed when other authorized COVID-19 treatment options are either not accessible or are not clinically appropriate for the patient.

The drug works by interfering with the ability of the virus to replicate within the body. By introducing errors into the viral genetic material during the replication process, it helps to lower the viral load and reduce the overall severity of the infection. It is important to note that Lagevrio is not authorized for use in patients under the age of eighteen, nor is it intended for the prevention of COVID-19 or for use in patients already hospitalized due to the virus.
