About LANSOPRAZOLE
What is this medication? Lansoprazole is a prescription medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid produced by the stomach, which helps to relieve symptoms such as persistent coughing, heartburn, and difficulty swallowing. By reducing acid levels, the medication also allows the esophagus and stomach lining time to heal from damage caused by excessive acid production.
This drug is commonly used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD, and to manage various types of ulcers in the stomach and intestines. It is also prescribed for conditions involving excessive stomach acid production, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and to treat erosive esophagitis. In some instances, it may be part of a combination treatment plan to eliminate H. pylori bacteria, which is a frequent cause of digestive system ulcers.
