About Layolis Fe

What is this medication?

Layolis Fe is a prescription birth control medication used primarily to prevent pregnancy in women. It is a combined oral contraceptive that contains two types of hormones: a progestin called norethindrone and an estrogen called ethinyl estradiol. These hormones work together to stop the release of an egg from the ovaries, thicken cervical mucus to make it difficult for sperm to reach an egg, and change the lining of the uterus to prevent a fertilized egg from attaching.

Beyond its use as a contraceptive, this medication can help make menstrual periods more regular, reduce blood loss, and decrease the severity of menstrual cramps. The Fe designation in the name indicates that the product includes ferrous fumarate, which is an iron supplement. This iron is contained in the inactive tablets taken during the final week of the pill cycle to help replace iron lost through menstrual bleeding and prevent iron deficiency anemia.
