About Lidotral Five Percent
What is this medication? Lidotral 5 percent is a topical prescription medication that contains lidocaine, which belongs to a class of drugs known as local anesthetics. It is primarily used to relieve the symptoms of nerve pain associated with post-herpetic neuralgia, a painful condition that can follow a shingles infection. The medication is applied directly to the skin to provide targeted relief by numbing the specific area affected by burning, stabbing, or aching sensations. In addition to treating post-herpetic neuralgia, it may be used for other types of localized pain as determined by a healthcare professional. It works by temporarily blocking pain signals from traveling along the nerves to the brain, which helps to decrease the intensity of chronic skin sensitivity. Because it is applied topically, it focuses its effect on the site of application and should only be used on intact, healthy skin as directed by a medical provider.
