About Mirabegron, Mirabgeorn

What is this medication? Mirabegron is a prescription medication categorized as a beta-3 adrenergic agonist that is primarily used to treat adults with overactive bladder. This condition is characterized by a sudden and strong need to urinate, a high frequency of urination throughout the day and night, and instances of urinary incontinence where accidental leakage occurs. By managing these symptoms, the medication helps patients regain better control over their urinary habits and daily activities.

The medication functions by interacting with specific receptors in the detrusor muscle of the bladder wall. When mirabegron binds to these beta-3 receptors, it causes the bladder muscle to relax while it is filling with urine. This relaxation increases the bladders storage capacity and helps prevent the involuntary muscle contractions that cause the urgent need to go. Unlike older treatments, this mechanism specifically targets the filling phase to provide relief from the symptoms of an overactive bladder.
