Monsels Solution, also known as ferric subsulfate solution, is a topical medication used primarily as a hemostatic agent to control bleeding. It is a styptic liquid that healthcare providers apply directly to a wound or surgical site to promote rapid blood clotting. This medication is most commonly used in clinical settings following minor procedures where small blood vessels have been opened and need to be sealed quickly.

The solution is frequently utilized during dermatological procedures like skin biopsies or in gynecological exams such as a colposcopy or cervical biopsy. When applied to a bleeding area, the ferric subsulfate reacts with blood proteins to create a chemical seal, effectively stopping the flow. It often leaves a temporary dark brown or black mark on the skin or tissue, which is a standard side effect of the chemical reaction required to achieve hemostasis.
