About NAPROXEN
What is this medication?
Naproxen is a prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, also known as an NSAID, that is used to reduce pain, inflammation, and stiffness. It works by blocking certain enzymes in the body that produce prostaglandins, which are chemicals responsible for causing pain and swelling in response to injury or disease. This medication is commonly prescribed to manage the symptoms of chronic conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. By reducing inflammation in the joints and tissues, it helps improve physical mobility and overall comfort for patients experiencing long-term inflammatory issues.
In addition to treating chronic conditions, naproxen is frequently used for the short-term relief of various types of acute pain. It is effective for managing discomfort associated with menstrual cramps, tendonitis, bursitis, and acute attacks of gout. Health care providers may also prescribe it to treat minor injuries, dental pain, or general muscle aches. Because it targets the underlying mechanisms of inflammation, it provides a versatile option for addressing a wide range of bodily pains that can interfere with a person's daily activities and quality of life.
