About Naproxen Sodium

What is this medication?

Naproxen sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, commonly referred to as an NSAID, that is used to reduce pain, swelling, and joint stiffness. It works by blocking the production of certain natural substances in the body that cause inflammation. This medication is frequently prescribed to treat symptoms of various types of arthritis, such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also effective for managing acute pain episodes related to gout, bursitis, and tendonitis.

In addition to chronic inflammatory conditions, naproxen sodium is used to provide relief for mild to moderate pain from several other sources. Doctors often prescribe it for menstrual cramps, muscle aches, dental pain, and the common cold. It can also be used as a fever reducer when necessary. While lower doses are available without a prescription, higher-strength versions are provided by healthcare providers to address more significant inflammation and long-term pain management needs.
