About Ohtuvayre
What is this medication? Ohtuvayre is a prescription medication known generically as ensifentrine that is used for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, commonly called COPD, in adults. It is the first medication in its class to offer a dual mechanism of action, functioning as both a bronchodilator to open the airways and a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory to reduce swelling in the lungs. It is meant for long-term daily use to help manage symptoms and improve overall lung function rather than treating acute breathing emergencies.
The medication is delivered directly to the lungs through a standard jet nebulizer twice a day. By inhibiting specific enzymes called phosphodiesterase 3 and 4, Ohtuvayre helps to relax smooth muscles in the respiratory tract while decreasing the inflammatory response that often complicates COPD. This combined approach helps patients breathe more easily and can be used as a standalone maintenance therapy or alongside other existing COPD treatments.
