About OZEMPIC, RYBELSUS

What is this medication? Ozempic and Rybelsus are prescription medications used primarily to improve blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. Both drugs contain the active ingredient semaglutide, which belongs to a class of medications known as GLP-1 receptor agonists. While Ozempic is administered as a once-weekly injection under the skin, Rybelsus is a daily oral tablet. These treatments are meant to be used in conjunction with diet and exercise to help manage glucose levels and lower hemoglobin A1C.

In addition to managing blood sugar, Ozempic is specifically indicated to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events like heart attack or stroke in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease. These medications work by mimicking a natural hormone that stimulates insulin production in response to meals and slows down the digestion process. Because they also signal the brain to feel full and reduce the amount of sugar the liver releases, many patients experience weight loss as a secondary effect of the treatment.
