About Oziltus
What is this medication? Oseltamivir is an antiviral medication prescribed to treat symptoms caused by the influenza virus, commonly known as the flu. It is effective against both influenza A and influenza B strains and works by inhibiting the neuraminidase enzyme, which prevents the virus from spreading from infected cells to healthy ones. To be most effective, the medication should be started as soon as possible, ideally within forty-eight hours of the first appearance of flu symptoms like fever, chills, and muscle aches. Beyond its use as a treatment, Oseltamivir is also utilized for the prevention of the flu in people who have been exposed to someone with the virus or during a community outbreak. While it can help reduce the duration of illness and the risk of complications, it is not a substitute for the annual flu vaccine. It is specifically designed to target viral infections and does not treat bacterial infections or the common cold.
