About Prevacid, Prevacid SoluTab

What is this medication? Prevacid and Prevacid SoluTab contain the active ingredient lansoprazole, which belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors. These medications work by decreasing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. By reducing acid levels, the medication helps to relieve symptoms such as heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and a persistent cough. It is also used to prevent and treat various types of stomach and intestinal ulcers, as well as damage to the esophagus caused by acid reflux.

Doctors frequently prescribe this medication to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease, commonly called GERD, and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. In some cases, it is used alongside antibiotics to treat infections caused by H. pylori bacteria. While Prevacid typically comes in capsule form, the SoluTab version is a tablet that dissolves on the tongue, making it a convenient option for individuals who have difficulty swallowing pills. Both forms are intended to promote healing of the digestive tract and provide relief from acid-related discomfort.
