What is this medication?

PreviDent 5000 Plus is a prescription-strength fluoride toothpaste designed to help prevent dental caries, also known as cavities. This medication contains a high concentration of sodium fluoride, specifically 1.1 percent, which is significantly more potent than standard toothpastes available over the counter. It is typically prescribed for adults and pediatric patients who have a high risk of developing tooth decay or for those who need extra protection for their tooth enamel due to various dental health factors.

The medication works by remineralizing the surfaces of the teeth and increasing their resistance to the harmful acids produced by plaque bacteria. Available in flavors like Fruitastic and Spearmint, it is intended to be used once daily in place of regular toothpaste, usually right before bedtime. After brushing for approximately two minutes, users should spit out the excess gel but avoid rinsing their mouth, eating, or drinking for at least thirty minutes to ensure the fluoride remains in contact with the teeth for maximum effectiveness.
