About Rituxan Hycela

What is this medication? Rituxan Hycela is a prescription medication that combines rituximab and hyaluronidase human to treat specific types of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia in adults. It is indicated for patients with follicular lymphoma, diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, and chronic lymphocytic leukemia who have already received at least one full dose of intravenous rituximab. Unlike traditional intravenous treatments, this version is administered as an injection under the skin, which significantly reduces the time required for each treatment session.

The medication works through the action of rituximab, a monoclonal antibody that targets the CD20 protein on the surface of certain white blood cells known as B-cells. Once attached, it helps the immune system identify and destroy these cells. The hyaluronidase human component acts as an enzyme that temporarily breaks down barriers in the tissue, allowing the rituximab to be absorbed into the bloodstream. This combination allows for a more convenient administration while maintaining the therapeutic effects of the antibody treatment.
