About Robinul

What is this medication?

Robinul, known generically as glycopyrrolate, is an anticholinergic medication primarily used as an additional treatment for peptic ulcers. It works by reducing the production of stomach acid and slowing down the natural movements of the digestive tract. By relaxing the muscles in the stomach and intestines, it helps to alleviate symptoms such as stomach pain and cramping associated with various gastrointestinal disorders.

Beyond its use for ulcers, Robinul is frequently prescribed to manage excessive drooling or saliva production, particularly in children with certain medical conditions like cerebral palsy. It is also commonly administered before surgical procedures to decrease secretions in the mouth, throat, and airway. By blocking the action of acetylcholine in the body, the medication helps control fluid production and muscle contractions throughout several organ systems.
