About ROCTAVIAN

What is this medication? ROCTAVIAN is a prescription gene therapy medication used to treat adults with severe hemophilia A. This condition is a hereditary bleeding disorder caused by a deficiency or defect in clotting Factor VIII, which prevents the blood from clotting correctly. The treatment is intended for patients who do not have pre-existing antibodies to the specific viral vector used to transport the genetic material into the body.

The medication functions by delivering a functional copy of the Factor VIII gene to liver cells, allowing the patient to produce their own clotting factor. By increasing the levels of Factor VIII in the blood, the therapy helps to prevent or reduce the frequency of spontaneous bleeding episodes. ROCTAVIAN is designed to be a one-time treatment administered through an intravenous infusion.
