About RyVent
What is this medication? RyVent is a prescription antihistamine that contains the active ingredient carbinoxamine maleate. It is primarily used to relieve symptoms associated with seasonal and year-round allergies, such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy or watery eyes. The medication works by blocking histamine, a natural substance in the body that causes allergic reactions when a person is exposed to triggers like pollen, pet dander, or dust mites. Beyond respiratory allergies, RyVent is also prescribed to treat various skin-related allergic conditions, including hives, itching, and mild cases of swelling. It can be used to manage allergic reactions to blood or plasma and as an additional treatment alongside epinephrine for severe allergic reactions. Because it is an older type of antihistamine, it may cause drowsiness or sleepiness in some patients who take it.
