About Sodium Sulfacetamide 9% - Sulfur 4.5% Wash

What is this medication? Sodium Sulfacetamide 9% and Sulfur 4.5% wash is a prescription topical cleanser used to treat various skin conditions, primarily acne vulgaris, rosacea, and seborrheic dermatitis. This medication utilizes a dual-action approach by combining an antibacterial agent with a keratolytic agent. The sodium sulfacetamide component works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria on the skin surface, while the sulfur helps to dry out the area and encourage the shedding of dead skin cells that can clog pores.

When used consistently as directed by a medical professional, this wash helps to reduce the redness, inflammation, and scaling associated with these chronic skin issues. It is effective at clearing up existing blemishes and preventing new ones from forming by managing oil production and bacterial colonies. Because it can cause dryness or peeling, patients are often advised to start slowly and use a moisturizer as needed while their skin becomes accustomed to the formula.
