About Spinosad
What is this medication? Spinosad is a prescription topical medication primarily used to treat head lice infestations in adults and children. It belongs to a class of drugs known as pediculicides and is specifically designed to eliminate both live lice and their eggs. This medication is often preferred because it frequently works after only one application and does not strictly require the manual removal of nits to be effective.
This medication is derived from a naturally occurring soil bacterium and works by attacking the nervous system of the lice, leading to paralysis and death. It is generally safe for use in patients who are at least six months old. Users should follow all application instructions carefully, as the treatment is meant for external use on the scalp and hair only.
