About TAKHZYRO
What is this medication? TAKHZYRO is a prescription medicine used to prevent attacks of hereditary angioedema, also known as HAE, in adults and pediatric patients aged 2 years and older. HAE is a rare genetic disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of severe swelling that can affect the limbs, face, intestinal tract, and airway. By providing routine prophylaxis, this medication helps to reduce the frequency and severity of these swelling episodes over time.
The medication works as a monoclonal antibody that targets and inhibits the activity of plasma kallikrein, an enzyme that plays a key role in the biological process that leads to HAE symptoms. It is administered as a subcutaneous injection, which is a shot given just under the skin. It is important for patients to understand that TAKHZYRO is intended for long-term prevention only and is not meant to be used for the immediate treatment of an acute HAE attack.
