About Xarelto, XARELTO
What is this medication? Xarelto is a prescription medication known as an anticoagulant, or blood thinner, that contains the active ingredient rivaroxaban. It is primarily used to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in adults with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. Additionally, healthcare providers prescribe this medication to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, as well as to help prevent these blood clots from occurring again after initial treatment.
This medication is also commonly used to prevent the formation of blood clots in patients who have recently undergone hip or knee replacement surgery. Furthermore, it may be used in combination with aspirin to reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks or strokes, in individuals with chronic coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease. By blocking specific clotting proteins in the blood, Xarelto helps maintain healthy blood flow throughout the body.
