What is this medication?

Avzivi, also known by the generic name bevacizumab-tnjn, is a prescription biological medication that is used as a targeted therapy for several types of advanced or metastatic cancers. It is classified as a biosimilar, which means it is highly similar to a previously approved biological reference product, Avastin. This medication is typically administered by a healthcare professional as an intravenous infusion, often in combination with chemotherapy, to help manage malignancies that have spread or recurred.

The medication functions as a vascular endothelial growth factor inhibitor, a type of drug that works by interfering with the blood supply to tumors. By blocking specific proteins that promote the growth of new blood vessels, it helps to starve the tumor of the nutrients and oxygen it needs to expand. Avzivi is specifically indicated for the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, certain forms of non-small cell lung cancer, and recurrent glioblastoma. It is also used to treat metastatic renal cell carcinoma, as well as specific types of cervical, ovarian, fallopian tube, and primary peritoneal cancers.
