About Cefadroxil
What is this medication? Cefadroxil is an antibiotic medication that belongs to the class of drugs known as first-generation cephalosporins. It is primarily prescribed to treat a variety of bacterial infections, such as those affecting the skin and soft tissues, the throat, and the tonsils. Medical professionals often use this drug to address specific conditions like streptococcal pharyngitis, more commonly known as strep throat, as well as certain types of urinary tract infections. The medication works by interfering with the formation of bacterial cell walls, which prevents the bacteria from growing and eventually leads to their destruction. It is important to note that cefadroxil is only effective against bacterial infections and will not work for viral illnesses like the common cold or the flu. To ensure the infection is fully eradicated and to prevent the development of drug-resistant bacteria, patients should complete the entire course of treatment exactly as directed by their healthcare provider.
