About CLINDAMYCIN PHOSPHATE AND BENZOYL PEROXIDE

What is this medication?

This medication is a topical combination treatment primarily used for the management of inflammatory acne vulgaris in adults and children. It contains two active ingredients that work together to treat and prevent skin blemishes. Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that stops the growth of acne-causing bacteria, while benzoyl peroxide is an antimicrobial agent that also helps to dry and peel the skin, making it easier for excess oils and dirt to be washed away.

By combining these two components, the medication effectively reduces the number of acne lesions and minimizes the redness associated with breakouts. It targets the bacteria trapped inside pores and decreases the amount of fatty acids on the skin surface that can lead to irritation. This dual-action approach is often more effective than using either ingredient alone, helping to clear existing pimples and prevent new ones from forming over time.
