About Davimet

What is this medication? Davimet is a prescription drug primarily composed of metformin hydrochloride, which belongs to the biguanide class of medications. It is specifically used to manage and treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults and children who are at least ten years old. By helping to control high blood sugar levels, this medication plays a crucial role in preventing serious complications associated with diabetes, such as kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, and cardiovascular issues.

The medication works through three main mechanisms to stabilize glucose levels in the bloodstream. First, it reduces the amount of sugar that the liver produces and releases into the body. Second, it decreases the amount of glucose absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract after eating. Finally, it improves insulin sensitivity, allowing the body to use its natural insulin more effectively to move sugar into the cells for energy. It is typically prescribed alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise program for maximum effectiveness.
