About ENTYVIO, ENTYVIO Pen, Entyvio

What is this medication? Entyvio is a prescription biologic medication used to treat adults with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease. These conditions are chronic inflammatory bowel diseases that can cause symptoms such as persistent diarrhea, abdominal pain, and rectal bleeding. This medication is often prescribed when other treatments, such as corticosteroids or immunomodulators, have not worked well enough or were not tolerated by the patient.

The drug works by blocking specific white blood cells from entering the gastrointestinal tract, which helps to reduce the inflammation responsible for bowel damage and symptoms. It is administered either through an intravenous infusion in a clinical setting or via a subcutaneous injection using the Entyvio Pen. Healthcare providers typically begin treatment with infusions before some patients transition to using the pen for maintenance therapy at home.
