About Flurbiprofen Sodium
What is this medication? Flurbiprofen sodium is a prescription medication belonging to the class of drugs known as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAIDs. It is primarily used as an ophthalmic solution, administered as drops directly into the eye. This medication works by inhibiting the production of certain natural chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, pain, and swelling.
The most frequent use for this medication is during eye surgery, such as cataract procedures, to prevent the pupil from constricting. By maintaining the dilation of the pupil, it allows the surgeon to perform the operation more effectively. Additionally, flurbiprofen sodium is used to manage and reduce inflammation and discomfort in the eye following surgical procedures or during the treatment of certain ocular conditions.
