About Herceptin Hylecta

What is this medication?

Herceptin Hylecta is a prescription medication used to treat adults with specific types of HER2-positive breast cancer. This includes cases of early-stage breast cancer as part of a complete treatment plan after surgery, as well as metastatic breast cancer that has spread to other areas of the body. The medication specifically targets cancers that overexpress the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 protein, which is responsible for signaling cancer cells to grow and divide.

The medication consists of a combination of trastuzumab and hyaluronidase-oysk. Trastuzumab is the active biologic agent that blocks the HER2 receptors, while hyaluronidase-oysk is an enzyme that helps the body absorb the medicine under the skin. Unlike original Herceptin which requires a lengthy intravenous infusion, Herceptin Hylecta is administered as a subcutaneous injection, which typically takes only a few minutes to complete during a clinic visit.
