About Oxistat
What is this medication? Oxistat is a topical antifungal medication used to treat various types of skin infections caused by fungi. The active ingredient, oxiconazole nitrate, works by weakening the cell membranes of the fungi, which prevents them from growing and spreading. This medication is available by prescription and is typically found in either cream or lotion forms for direct application to the infected area of the skin. Healthcare providers commonly prescribe Oxistat to address conditions such as tinea pedis, tinea cruris, and tinea corporis, which are more widely known as athletes foot, jock itch, and ringworm. It is also used to treat tinea versicolor, a fungal infection that creates light or dark patches on the chest, back, or arms. Patients usually apply the medication once or twice daily for several weeks to ensure the infection is completely eradicated and to prevent it from returning.
