About Purified Cortrophin Gel
What is this medication? Purified Cortrophin Gel is an injectable prescription medicine containing repository corticotropin injection, which is a purified form of adrenocorticotropic hormone. It works by stimulating the adrenal glands to produce and release natural cortisol and other hormones into the bloodstream to help reduce inflammation. This medication is specifically indicated for the treatment of acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis in adults. Beyond this primary use, doctors may prescribe this medication for a wide array of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. It is used as a short-term treatment for various rheumatic disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Additionally, it is used to manage certain skin conditions like systemic lupus erythematosus, severe allergic reactions, and inflammatory diseases of the eyes or respiratory tract. It can also be used to help reduce protein in the urine for patients with nephrotic syndrome.
