About Restasis MultiDose
What is this medication? Restasis MultiDose is a prescription ophthalmic emulsion used to increase tear production in patients whose tear production is suppressed due to ocular inflammation. This condition is often associated with keratoconjunctivitis sicca, more commonly known as chronic dry eye. The medication contains the active ingredient cyclosporine, which works as an immunomodulator to help manage the inflammation that interferes with the eyes' ability to stay moist.
The MultiDose version of this medication provides the same preservative-free formula as single-use vials but in a specially designed bottle that prevents contamination. Unlike over-the-counter artificial tears that only offer temporary relief, this treatment addresses the underlying cause of dryness to help the body produce its own natural tears. It is generally used twice a day, and patients usually need to use the medication consistently for several months to achieve the full therapeutic effect.
