About ROSUVASTATIN, ROSUVASTATIN CALCIUM

What is this medication? Rosuvastatin, also known as rosuvastatin calcium, is a prescription medication belonging to a class of drugs called statins or HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. It is primarily used to lower high levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, often referred to as bad cholesterol, and triglycerides in the blood. At the same time, this medication can help increase the levels of high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, which is commonly known as good cholesterol. It works by slowing the production of cholesterol in the liver to prevent it from building up on the walls of the arteries.

Beyond managing lipid levels, rosuvastatin is frequently prescribed to reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes. It is particularly beneficial for individuals with coronary heart disease or those who have several risk factors for heart disease, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or a history of smoking. This medication is intended to be used in conjunction with a heart-healthy diet and lifestyle changes, such as regular exercise and weight management, to achieve the best results in improving overall cardiovascular health.
