About TECFIDERA, Tecfidera

What is this medication? Tecfidera is a prescription medicine used to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis in adults. This includes clinical conditions such as clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease. The medication is intended to help reduce the frequency of neurological relapses and can help delay the progression of physical disability related to MS.

The medication contains the active ingredient dimethyl fumarate and is provided as an oral delayed-release capsule. While the exact way it works is not fully understood, it is believed to activate a specific pathway that helps protect cells from oxidative stress and inflammation. By modulating the immune system, it helps prevent the body from attacking the protective layer of the nerves in the brain and spinal cord.
