About Tivicay, Tivicay PD

What is this medication? Tivicay and Tivicay PD are prescription medicines used to treat human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in adults and children. The active ingredient in these medications is dolutegravir, which belongs to a class of drugs called integrase strand transfer inhibitors. While Tivicay is generally prescribed for adults and older children, Tivicay PD is a specialized dispersible tablet formulation intended for infants and young children who meet specific weight requirements.

These medications function by interfering with an enzyme called integrase, which the HIV virus requires to replicate and spread throughout the body. By blocking this process, the medication helps to lower the viral load and can improve the strength of the immune system. These drugs do not cure HIV or AIDS and are meant to be taken as part of a complete treatment regimen alongside other antiretroviral medications as directed by a healthcare provider.
