About Vyndaqel, Vyndamax

What is this medication? Vyndaqel and Vyndamax are prescription medications used to treat the cardiomyopathy caused by wild-type or hereditary transthyretin-mediated amyloidosis, also known as ATTR-CM, in adults. This condition occurs when a protein called transthyretin becomes unstable and breaks down, leading to the formation of amyloid deposits that build up in the heart. This buildup causes the heart muscle to become stiff and thick, which interferes with its ability to pump blood effectively and can eventually lead to heart failure.

These medications work as transthyretin stabilizers by binding to the transthyretin protein and keeping it from falling apart. By preventing the formation of new amyloid fibrils, the drugs help slow the progression of the disease and reduce the damage to heart tissue. Clinical evidence indicates that these treatments can help lower the risk of cardiovascular-related death and decrease the number of times a patient needs to be hospitalized for heart problems. While both medications contain the same active ingredient, they are formulated differently and should be taken exactly as directed by a healthcare provider.
