About ZIANA
What is this medication?
Ziana is a prescription topical gel used to treat acne vulgaris in people who are 12 years of age or older. It is specifically designed to target and reduce the presence of inflammatory acne lesions, such as pimples and pustules, as well as non-inflammatory lesions like blackheads and whiteheads. This medication is intended for external use only and is typically applied once daily at bedtime to the affected areas of the face.
The gel contains a combination of two active ingredients, clindamycin phosphate and tretinoin, which work in different ways to improve the skin. Clindamycin is a lincosamide antibiotic that helps slow or stop the growth of bacteria that cause acne, while tretinoin is a retinoid that affects the growth of skin cells and helps prevent pores from becoming clogged. By combining these two medications, Ziana addresses both the bacterial infection and the skin cell buildup associated with acne breakouts.
