About ZYKADIA
What is this medication?
Zykadia, which contains the active ingredient ceritinib, is a prescription medicine used to treat adults with a specific type of lung cancer called metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This medication is specifically designed for patients whose cancer is caused by a defect in a gene called anaplastic lymphoma kinase, commonly referred to as ALK-positive. It is used when the cancer has spread to other parts of the body and is detected by a test performed by a healthcare provider.
As a kinase inhibitor, Zykadia works by blocking the action of the abnormal ALK protein that signals the cancer cells to grow and divide. Doctors may prescribe this medication as a first-line treatment for newly diagnosed patients or for those who have previously taken other cancer medications like crizotinib but found them to be ineffective or no longer working. It is typically taken once daily as an oral medication exactly as prescribed by a physician to help slow or stop the progression of the disease.
