About ZYNYZ
What is this medication?
Zynyz is a prescription medication used to treat a specific type of skin cancer known as Merkel cell carcinoma in adults. It is indicated for patients with metastatic disease, meaning the cancer has spread to other parts of the body, or recurrent locally advanced disease that cannot be treated with surgery or radiation. This drug is a type of immunotherapy called a programmed death receptor-1 blocking antibody, which helps the body's own immune system find and kill cancer cells.
The medicine is administered through an intravenous infusion by a healthcare professional, usually on a schedule of every four weeks. By preventing the PD-1 protein from working, Zynyz stops cancer cells from hiding from the immune system, allowing the body to mount a more effective defense against the tumor. Because it stimulates the immune system, it may cause side effects where the body attacks its own healthy tissues, and patients should be closely supervised by their oncology team during the course of treatment.
