About Evoxac
What is this medication?
Evoxac is a prescription medication primarily used to manage symptoms of dry mouth, also known as xerostomia, in people diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome. Sjogren's Syndrome is an autoimmune disorder that often attacks the glands responsible for producing moisture, such as those that create saliva and tears. This medication belongs to a category of drugs called cholinergic agonists, which function by stimulating specific receptors in the body to increase the production of natural secretions.
By targeting these receptors, the medication helps the salivary glands produce more saliva, which provides relief from the chronic dryness that can make eating and speaking difficult. It is typically taken in capsule form several times a day as directed by a healthcare provider. Patients should be aware that while the drug helps with dry mouth, it may also lead to side effects like increased sweating or nausea, so it is important to follow a doctor's guidance closely during treatment.
