About Multitam

What is this medication? Multitam is a prescription medication primarily used in the treatment of breast cancer. It belongs to a class of drugs known as selective estrogen receptor modulators, which work by interfering with the effects of estrogen in the breast tissue. This is particularly important for hormone-receptor-positive breast cancers, as these types of cancer cells often rely on estrogen to grow and multiply.

Indications and usage

INDICATIONS: Multitam™ is indicated to provide dietary support to men and women. Folate is effective in the treatment of megaloblastic anemias due to a deficiency of folate (as may be seen in tropical or nontropical sprue) and in anemias of nutritional origin, pregnancy, infancy, or childhood.

Dosage and administration

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: One (1) Multitam™ caplet daily, between meals or as directed by a physician. Do not administer to children under the age of 12.

Contraindications

CONTRAINDICATIONS: This product is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.

Warnings

WARNING: Administration of folate alone is improper therapy for pernicious anemia and other megaloblastic anemias in which vitamin B 12 is deficient.

Drug interactions

Drug Interactions: Multitam™ is not recommended for and should not be given to patients receiving levodopa because the action of levodopa is antagonized by pyridoxine. There is a possibility of increased bleeding due to pyridoxine interaction with anticoagulants (e.g., Aspirin, Heparin or Clopidogrel).

Adverse reactions

Adverse Reactions: Allergic sensitization has been reported following both oral and parenteral administration of folate. Adverse reactions have been reported with specific vitamins and minerals but generally at levels substantially higher than those contained herein. However, allergic and idiosyncratic reactions are possible at lower levels. Iron, even at the usual recommended levels, has been associated with gastrointestinal intolerance in some patients.
