About Vitramyn

What is this medication? Vitramyn is a prescription multivitamin and mineral supplement primarily used to treat or prevent nutritional deficiencies. It is frequently prescribed to individuals who may not receive adequate nutrients from their daily diet due to poor nutrition, specific illnesses, or increased physical needs. This medication is often used as a prenatal supplement because it contains essential components like folic acid, iron, and other vitamins that support the health of a mother and the proper development of a baby during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

The medication works by providing a concentrated source of essential vitamins and minerals that are necessary for maintaining healthy bodily functions, such as red blood cell production and immune system support. By ensuring that the body has a consistent supply of these nutrients, it helps prevent conditions like anemia and supports overall metabolic health. It is important for patients to follow the specific dosage instructions provided by their healthcare professional to ensure they receive the correct balance of nutrients without exceeding safe limits.

Prescribing information

Indications and usage
Indications and Usage: Vitramyn™ is indicated to provide vitamin supplements to men and women. Folic acid is effective in the treatment of megaloblastic anemias due to a deficiency of folic acid (as may be seen in tropical or nontropical sprue) and in anemias of nutritional origin, pregnancy, infancy, or childhood.
Dosage and administration
Dosage and Administration: One (1) Vitramyn™ caplet daily, between meals or as directed by a physician. Do not administer to children under the age of 12.
Contraindications
Contraindications: This product is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
Warnings
WARNING: Administration of folic acid alone is improper therapy for pernicious anemia and other megaloblastic anemias in which vitamin B 12 is deficient.
Drug interactions
Drug Interactions: Vitramyn™ is not recommended for and should not be given to patients receiving levodopa because the action of levodopa is antagonized by pyridoxine. There is a possibility of increased bleeding due to pyridoxine interaction with anticoagulants (e.g., Aspirin, Heparin, or Clopidogrel).
Adverse reactions
Adverse Reactions: Allergic sensitization has been reported following both oral and parenteral administration of folic acid. Adverse reactions have been reported with specific vitamins and minerals but generally at levels substantially higher than those contained herein. However, allergic and idiosyncratic reactions are possible at lower levels. Iron, even at the usual recommended levels, has been associated with gastrointestinal intolerance in some patients.
